Jet Onto First

​I made a trip out to Hemet to visit my parents and decided to swing by a card shop on Florida Avenue.  It’s been a couple years since I’ve been to this particular store, which has been around for 40 years, so it was nice to buy a jumbo pack of 2020 Topps Update and 5 packs of 2021 Topps Series 2.  This post will focus on the Update series.

I didn’t get any autographs but got a handful of cards for the personal collection.  First up, Buster Posey in full swing, Mike Trout slugging it out, and Jedd Gyorko, in what is most likely his last Topps card, hitting a ball high up.  Gyorko retired as a ball player from the Major Leagues when he didn’t get picked up as a free agent.  He went on to manage the West Virginia Black Bears.

​For my Padres collection, I pulled a gold foil parallel of Garrett Richards, who now pitches for the Boston Red Sox.  Tommy Pham, who started the season pretty slow, has really shined since June.  He’s been an excellent leadoff man and in this card it looks like he hit a grounder and will jet onto first base.

​I’m looking forward to opening the 2021 Topps packs.  I’m not one to look online to see what cards are available in any given set, for I embrace the thrill of what each pack beholds.
