2021 Topps Update Baseball
09-07-2022

I just opened a blaster box of 2021 Topps Update baseball cards and am disappointed with the font on the base set.  Topps chose an uppercase, italic slim font that makes it very difficult to read the names, teams, and positions.  The 90's style graphical lines are distracting.  Nevertheless, in spite of this style, some of the cards can fetch good money.

Buster Posey
08-27-2022

Buster Posey is the clean-cut kid who was a sold catcher and hitter. Always working at improving his swing, my favorite career highlight was when he was at bat, took a swing, and the bat flew out of his hands and got stuck high up in the safety net.  Buster Posey has been added to the Collection!  More cards of this former ballplayer to come as I go through my inventory.

2022 Topps Baseball
08-24-2022

I finally got my hands on a hanger box of 2022 Topps Baseball and am pleased with the number of cards included for the price.  The local big box retailer has received a steady shipment of cards these last two months, yet collectors and speculators are clearing out the shelves within a few days.  Last night I was at Target and there were...

Recent Acquisitions In Digital Baseball (Since 08.13.2022)
08-20-2022

Topps apps are a great time killer and I've been using them for several years now.  They bring the same great excitement of pulling your favorite team or player, and the advantage is that they don't take up physical space in your house.  It's also easier to search for specific cards as the inventory management is built in!

Disappointing But Not Unexpected
08-15-2022

Big news hit the Padres this last week as it's star player, Fernando Tatis Jr., was caught cheating with steroids.  Although he's been out this season due to injury, it's still has a psychological effect on the team and the fans.  My view is that it doesn't surprise me.  Perhaps this is because I've been on mother-earth for 50 years...

If I were to produce Baseball Cards...

If I were to produce baseball cards, regardless of having an exclusive license, I would create a set that has the following attributes.

I'm a Sucker
09-03-2021

Opening my first packs of 2021 Topps Baseball led into disappointment.  Five hobby packs for $5 each with 3 San Diego Padres cards and 3 inserts.  First, let’s take a look at the cards from the main set - Wil Myers, Joe Musgrove, and Adrian Morejon.

Jet Onto First
08-27-2021

I made a trip out to Hemet to visit my parents and decided to swing by a card shop on Florida Avenue.  It’s been a couple years since I’ve been to this particular store, which has been around for 40 years, so it was nice to buy a jumbo pack of 2020 Topps Update and 5 packs of 2021 Topps Series 2.  This post will focus on the Update series.

Lost
08-22-2021

Major news hit the Trading Card world earlier this week – Topps lost it’s MLB license to Fanatics!  Topps has been the namesake of trading cards for decades but all of that will change in 2023.  Fanatics is sporting a deal that’s worth 10x more than what’s ever been struck.  All power to the ball players on earning a good living, but...

Back to the Basics
08-09-2021

I’m going back to the basics with the card collection - I am reorganizing.  The cards are organized by favorite teams and players and stored in top loaders and then placed in boxes.  All other cards are stored in either penny sleeves/boxes or in display pages.  I’ve decided to move all sports cards into boxes...
